Mat has dedicated his life to helping animals; it was his passion, even from a young age. When animals in need came in where the owner could not afford to did not want to treat fixable injuries or issues he would often do this for free and rehome the animals. I have lost count of the number of costly surgeries Mat performed for free or the number of cats that hung out in the cattery until they could find new homes.
In his honor and spirit we would like to continue this. The wonderful and caring staff at Vet Smart and are setting up a charitable trust in MatŐs name to collect donations. These funds will be used to perform surgeries or treat a manageable condition in relinquished animals. It will also be used to feed and care for abandoned animals, in discretionary cases it may be used to help owner in difficult situations to assist with the cost of care they otherwise are unable to afford. We are pursuing this to honor MatŐs memory and keep one of his generous attributes with us.
Below are just a few of the cases Mat saved:
Postie was hit by a car and ruptured its diaphragm. The owners could not afford surgery so
Mat treated him for free and rehomed him.
PhazeŐs owner were moving
house and they felt they had no choice but to euthanase
him. He stayed with us for
ten days until he was adopted.
Pegs
was a ktten with a broken leg. The original owner had bough her like
this but didnŐt understand how bad it was.
Mat pinned the the
leg free of charge and we are currenty still looking
for a home.
We even adopted baby goat for a while until it could be placed with a goat of approximately the same age
Three out of four
of our dogs were rescued, one as a pup and two and 8 months
